la monde par mes yeux

the next dimension of fashion

* i just figured out how to enable comments on here, so now this is the real deal :)

seems like i get around to posting here about once a week. so infrequently! i apologize about that, really. this week i get to talk about something to do with myself, and not some random crazycool thing that i just want to share with you.

for the past year i have been involved with a project that is pretty close to my heart: i was the artistic director of the r4 fashion show that took place last night (nov 20) in toronto.

the show focused on eco-friendly & sustainable fashion. the event was powered by bullfrog power, there were no hard copies of tickets, we sold only organic wine & beer - basically every detail that could have been considered WAS considered, and we made sure it was “green” in whatever way we could make that happen. our runway was constructed from bamboo, and had sides of organic voile.

we made this canopy above the side of the runway with re-used bamboo that the UW school of architecture students had left over from an installation:

there were loads of cool people there, like kelli drennan (founder of fashion takes action), the f-list, and toronto fashion incubator (TFI). even evan biddell (winner of project runway canada) was there - he was a member of our jury that judged the student design competition. and, of course, there were the bloggers, and my good friend milo reinhardt of cloud mechanics. everyone was fabulous. i can’t wait for my next chance to meet them again.

since i promised some pictures, here’s me and some friends: (l-r) nataliya, me, LP, & LC. trying my best to not look totally insane after an entire day of setting up and freaking out!

there is a startling lack of post-worthy photos of me & my outfit from the show… and due to general business/not being able to carry around my camera all night, i totally failed to get photos of other people’s outfits!

so, instead i leave you with a look that we saw come down the runway from heidi ackerman, who is so talented. these boot/pant/trouser things remind me a lot of the prada fall 2009 hip waders.

now it’s time to catch up on sleep… and lots of it.

caught in a bad romance

before i get to the real content of the post, i have to say HOLY MOLY, was i the only person who hyperventilated when seeing the alexander mcqueen “armadillo” shoes in action in lady gaga’s bad romance video? overreaction? i don’t think so. that video was like one huge mcqueen commercial, and i loved every minute of it. (see the video here.)

so, anyways, lately i’m trying to use jewelry more. er, at least i’m thinking about doing that. i’m just not a jewelry type of person, besides throwing on a necklace to pull an outfit together, just to have something there.

i’m a huge fan of this 3.1 phillip lim bracelet, though, because it’s more interesting than ornamental. plus, i LOVE yellow gold. gold anything. nothing anyone ever says can change that. love love love.

after wearing the same disgusting keds all summer (nothing against keds, mine are just smelly and covered in paint) i’m finally starting to re-stock shoes as well. bought new black flats, new moccasins, moccasin boots (late to the party, i know), new matte black leather pumps & patent black pumps, and, my personal favourite! the jeffrey campbell “class” bootie:

i’m totally in love with them, and trying to figure out some way to work them into like every outfit. unfortunately, our varsity jackets showed up this week as well, so i’m stuck every day in between wanting to dress up like a normal (hopefully fashionable) person, and wanting to wear leggings/moccasins, just because i can. hoping i can find the strength not to go to the dark side.

love you all!

one day when j. devic is famous for taking such beautiful pictures, i’ll be able to say i knew her back when she worked at the camera store in the mall.

in love with legs, lately. i especially love these super delicate DIY’d tights over at park & cube, taking inspiration from the f/w 2009 tights at doo.ri (below).

now to figure out what i could actually wear them with? i’m terrible at dealing with skirt/dress-based outfits.
